There is a saying that if you want to get something done give it to the busiest person you know. People often ask me if postage stamps have value! The answer is yes and no! Some will have value and some will not. The best way to find out is by getting a Stamp Collection Appraisal.
My first question is always how was the collection acquired?
Were the stamps steamed off envelopes?
Are the stamps canceled also called postmarked?
Usually steamed off or canceled stamps have little or no value!
Were they purchased from stamp dealers or auctions?
If the stamps were purchased from reputable dealers or auction houses there may be considerable value!
Are the new and unused?
Modern U.S. postage stamps will be worth less than the face value unless they are considered rare and there is a demand
Older U.S. stamps should be looked at more carefully!
I do have a stamp expert In my store!
A rare Stamps value is determined by how crisp and unused it is. Also by how well centered it is. If it is off center it is usually worthless.
Stamps can be sent to grading companies. But usually, this does not pay!
My Father once sent a group of U.S. stamps for grading and they barely sold for the cost of the grading.
Sheets of stamps, plate blocks, and stamp coils are mostly worth far less than face value.
Please feel free to bring your stamps into my store for a stamp collection appraisal or ask for a house call or appointment
